From wood to space: the journey of thoughtful furniture making

Wooden furniture in a calm, daylit interior

A chair looks simple when it is finished. Behind it are dozens of decisions — about timber, joints, finish and comfort — made long before it reaches a room.

At Fujisawa Vietnam, every product begins with the material. Timber arrives kiln-dried and is rested until its moisture content is stable, because wood that moves after assembly is wood that fails. Boards are then graded by grain and colour so that the parts of one piece belong together.

Machined to the millimetre

CNC machining centres cut each component to the drawing. Precision at this stage is what allows joints to close cleanly without filler, and what makes the two-hundredth chair identical to the first.

  • Cutting and profiling of legs, rails and backs
  • Joinery — mortise, tenon and dowel — machined in one set-up
  • Dimensional checks against the master sample

Machines give us precision; the final surface still belongs to the hand.

Sanded, finished, upholstered

Sanding is done in stages, by machine and then by hand, until the surface is ready to take colour. Finishes are applied in thin coats and cured between each one. Seats are upholstered in house, where stitching lines and fabric tension are checked piece by piece.

We have made it our principle to deliver joy and inspiration to our customers. That starts with getting the details right.

Tested before it leaves

Before a product is approved for mass production it is tested for strength and repeated impact to JIS standards. Each lot is then inspected for function, finish and packing before shipping — to customers in Vietnam and to export markets around the world.
